The Muse :: Issue One :: September 2012

Dear friends, colleagues, fellow creators:

Some of you know me as the head of LUCITÀ, some as a writer and editor, others as the producer of the wildly popular Mayan Calendar Portal, still others as a tireless traveler, and most of you probably as an incorrigible workaholic who gets up with the roosters and burns the candle at both ends (and in several time zones).

Well, I have finally landed.

On both feet, eyes wide open, and more excited than I have ever been in my life. I've finally decided to dedicate the rest of my conscious days to the one passion that burns deeper within me than any other—the art of the written word.

Three of my works are now out in print and eBook format: two short stories, Confession and "Bakaly," and the inspirational "The Serpent and the Jaguar: Living in Sacred Time" (see sidebar).

Another short story will be released this fall; many more works remain to be finished, and published—short stories, novellas, a book for older children, and a psychological thriller trilogy.

Yes, there is my official author's web site, the requisite social media platforms now budding (see below), and this eLetter, "The Muse." Here, I'll share my stories in the making, the challenges of the writing life, thoughts on the disrupted publishing industry, my blogs, reviews & interviews, speaking and author events past and present.

I'll keep it short, relevant, and monthly.

I will still be very much involved with LUCITÀ—in fact, we have set up a publishing arm of the company called LUCITÀ Publishing, which publishes outstanding short fiction and non fiction by professionals and experts in their fields. (So if you know of authors whose work falls into one of these two categories, send them our way!)

If you love a good book, I humbly invite you into my world; if you'd rather pass, then pass this on to a friend who loves to read. And if you're just curious, then my world is your stage.

Explore and enjoy!

Birgitte

Each of my books has its own blog. I'm sure that will change in a hurry as the roster of my published works grows, but those books that carry universal themes will continue on in timeless, ever-relevant conversations. Here are the first three:

  • Sacred time: this blog explores the meaning of sacred time in our stressed-out, crazy-busy lives both personal and professional.
Inspired by "The Serpent and the Jaguar."

  • Confessions: thoughts and observations about faith and religion.
    Inspired by "Confession."

  • Youth: discusses the one thing all of us rush through when we have it, but then can never seem to make last long enough: youth.
    Inspired by "Bakaly."

Luckily for those of us social butterflies, authors are no longer expected to pretend to be foreign, little understood creatures typing away in the deep dark corners of underground cafés, bottle of vodka at their side.

We can finally be simply who we are.

Come see me in New Mexico and Silicon Valley this fall! Deets below.

Sept 8-11: Undisclosed location. My short stories are a part of an exclusive launch event during New York's Fashion week, so I can't quite talk about it yet. (Really. They'll gag me with a Prada shawl.)

Sept 13-17: Albuquerque, New Mexico. I'm giving a talk about sustainability and the Mayan Calendar (a little-known link) at the Wisdom from the Origins conference.

Oct. 4: Mountain View, California. The well-known East-West bookstore on Castro Street is hosting a book signing and a talk about my book "The Serpent and the Jaguar."
