The Muse :: Issue Eight :: April 2013 :: New Release

The Muse

First and above all, apologies for the late posting of this month's "The Muse." Professional marketers might cry foul for not making this issue "consistent" with my usual eLetter timeframes, but, quite frankly, I prefer to err on the side of quality rather than a schedule.

In other words, if I don't have anything really interesting or important to say, better to wait till I do. And now I do. The short story I mentioned last month, "Verse in Arabic," has gone through three rounds of edits submitted by three people from three different cultures and several plot improvements that make it a much stronger, tighter narrative. It's also long enough now to warrant the designation of "novella." More on the release and how you can get your copy below.

The other important news is that I've moved my site to its own domain name, www.birgitterasine.com. It's still the site you know and love, with a few upgrades and navigation adjustments to make it more, how do they call it, "reader friendly". Oh and I had a neat little social media bar put in on the side, too. That's my version of a floating side bar... that's "bar" as in "libation"...

Please update your bookmarks, as the old site will be decommissioned in the next few weeks.

And finally, finally, I think it's safe to say we can at long last welcome in Spring. I've been wearing sweaters (sweaters! here in California!!) up until a few days ago. I know, I know... I can hear the world's tiniest violins playing for me now. But your blood would thin out too if you lived here... and hey, many of you do, so you know what I mean!

Anyhow, as I was saying. Here's to Spring.

~ Birgitte

It's done and the pre-release festivities have begun! "Verse in Arabic" is now available as an eBook for your iPad, Nook or Nook Color, and of course the Kindle in its many incarnations.

While we prepare the official release which includes the paperback version, we're going to keep only the eBook available, but at a special pre-release price of less than a Starbucks Cappuccino: $2.99.

I promise you this novella will wake you up faster, and KEEP you up longer, than any Starbucks latte!

If you do find you can't put the book down as several early readers have, I would love it if you could submit one of those deeply coveted reader reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes & Noble, Apple's iBookstore, or whatever book/reader/literary community you frequent.

And of course, the more friends you tell about this awesome new book, the less likely I am to have to stand on the median on El Camino with a hat in my hand.

Although I do kind of like the one Don Miguel Ruiz is wearing in the sidebar. Maybe he'll let me borrow it.

For those of you who've taken to reading on a digital device, have you ever wondered how they turn perfectly healthy print books into the stream of bits and bytes you pull up on your screen?

It's a process I've been getting rather intimately familiar with, since that's what my company has started to do for our publishing arm. Gazing at the XHTML code of a book you've spent quality time writing is not unlike... pondering the metal alloy your belt buckle is made of.

Seriously though, I admit it does rev up my heart rate. It's awfully sexy. Especially when you get it right and your book magically unfolds on the gorgeous screen of a new iPad or the Kindle Fire HD.

So fire up those readers and let me know how my covers look!
